As a really nice addition to CONSOLLECTION, we are happy to present the ENTEX SELECT-A-GAME from 1981. The Select-A-Game is a handheld device (or almost a tabletop, as it is not really handy…) running with cartridges. It displays the games through a vacuum fluroscent display (VFD) and the help of overlays for each game. The system itself has no microprocessor, it was more a display & controller, while the games delivered the rest. With Pac Man 2 and Space Invader 2, two well known names were released for the system. Apart from those, Basketball, Football, Pinball and Baseball were part of the lineup of 6 games. The Pac Man 2 cartridge is another well known brand and quite rare these days (and still missing in our collection), as there was a lincensing problem with Coleco, prompting the removal of the game from the market. A Turtles-themed game was announced, but never released, as the system only had limited success back then. The gameplay of each game is quite simple, with only basic graphics being displayed by the VFD. However, the item has a nice yet strange look and feel, and the possibility to play all games (even Space Invaders!) against a human player was quite new for a handheld device back then. Although it is not as scarce as the Entex Adventure Vision, thre Select-A-Game is quite a rare addition to our collection.
